Graceland

Elvis Presley's famous home, Graceland, is located in Memphis, Tennessee and is available for self-guided tour.  Included in the main tour are several rooms on the main floor and some rooms downstairs, as well as other buildings on the grounds, such as Elvis' business office (yes, the king and his office staff did work at home!). The tour does not include the upstairs rooms, although some pieces of furniture, such as Elvis' round bed, are in other parts of the tour. His airplanes and cars are available at an extra charge.

We found that the fee for the tour was very reasonable and was a very good value. Prices start at just $16.25  for the main tour and include the rental of an MP3 player that you can control yourself . Additionally, there are many tour guides along the tour that are willing to answer questions for you or call someone else if you ask a question they can't answer. Additional exhibits, such as Elvis' automobiles, custom jets and another exhibit are available at a slightly higher cost. The Plantinum Tour including all exhibits is only $25.25 for non-senior adults.

To add another entirely deeper dimension to your vacation, rent the documentary about Elvis' life and watch it at home after you get back.

We found the tour to be very interesting and engaging, and we enjoyed it. But we also came away with a somber feeling after having spent several hours looking a deceased person's belongings. The extreme commercialism of the property added to the feeling that Elvis' life and memory were being violated, and it was indeed a sad feeling. Later though, we felt we enjoyed the tour very much.
