Making it happen for You in 2008
by Christen McCauley for Work-at-Home.org
A well-known mentor, Walter Hailey, once said: We change better by revolution than by evolution. If you’re reading this you probably have work at home dreams that have not become a reality yet.
If so, it's time for your personal revolution.
How to become a “Work at Home Person” in 2008:
1. Set a date by which you want to work at home. Make sure it’s ambitious but realistic, and write it down.
2. Write down all of the obstacles there may be to prevent you from working at home. Examples may include: “Don’t have a work at home job and don’t know where to get one” or “don’t have a home office to work in”.
3. Write down all of the solutions to overcome all the obstacles. No quitting here! There is a solution for almost every obstacle! If under ‘Obstacles’, for example, you wrote down: “I’m afraid of getting scammed, can’t find REAL work at home jobs no matter how hard I try.”, write down the solutions, like “do more research to avoid work at home scams”, or “check out websites that offer scam-free work at home jobs like JobsForMoms.com”, or “try to find work at home jobs with companies I am already familiar with”.
4. Write down everything you have to do to make your work at home dream a reality. Some items on this list may be: 1) find a work at home job, 2) convert Maggie’s room to a home office and move her into Sally’s room. 3) work out finely-tuned budget and discuss with husband. Break big pieces into little pieces. For example, creating your new home office involves many smaller steps, like: explaining to Maggie how much fun she’ll have in Sally’s room, buy new bunk bed for girls, buy bedding, having moving together party, buy home office furniture, research what is required for standard home office, move phone jack, etc.
5. Of course, Work-at-Home.org is a great source for more information about working at home and may have additional articles that can help you. (Had to throw that in.)
6. Voila. Now what you’ve done is created a golden pathway to the achievement of your work at home dream! Now, all you have to do is list each item in the order in which they should be completed, assign deadlines to each item and follow the roadmap to work at home SUCCESS. Again, dates should be reasonable but somewhat ambitious.
7. Goals are very powerful and will get you where you want to go. For more help you can use sites like The Goals Guy, which offers everything from personal coaching to very, very powerful goal setting tools, even a goal setting clock that will help keep you focused and help you celebrate the achievement of your goal. Executive Book Services like Soundview publish lots of self-help information to help you with goal setting and other tools for super-achievement in 2008.
It's 2008. If you want to work at home there is absolutely nothing standing in your way. Go for it. This year can be the best year of your life.
